Pérez-Carrillo

The factory’s reputation is particularly highlighted by three of its award-winning cigars: the Pledge, Encore, and La Historia.

Pledge, acclaimed as Cigar Aficionado's #1 Cigar of the Year in 2020, is celebrated for its rich, dark Connecticut Habano wrapper and complex flavor profile.

Encore, another distinguished creation, earned the same top honor in 2018 for its all-Nicaraguan blend and creamy, flavorful experience.

La Historia, a tribute to the family's heritage, features a Mexican San Andrés wrapper and a blend of Nicaraguan fillers, delivering a rich and nuanced smoking experience.

These cigars, emblematic of E.P. Carrillo's mastery, have solidified the factory’s standing as a producer of some of the finest cigars in the world.

CROWNED HEADS

Crowned Heads is a premium cigar company committed to producing cigars of artisanal quality that are defined by a combination of excellent flavor, balance, and consistency.

They believe in continuous improvement, and in a marriage of tradition with innovation.  "The tobacco lives, breathes, and speaks to us; it leads the blend and it names the brand."  As Michelangelo once said, “Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.”

Crowned Heads is influenced by a time when quality, pride, and integrity mattered.  Striving to bring their vision to reality and invite you to live in their world.

Crowned Heads are bonded to a belief in strict attention to detail, and to remain meticulously focused upon every aspect of their products and the brand.  It is an exclusive and select group of retail partners that will offer their brands.  Their goal is not to be everywhere, but rather, to provide an unparalleled level of service, attention, and excellence to those that support.

OZGENER FAMILY CIGARS

Tim Ozgener, who once owned and ran CAO alongside his father and sister, returned to the cigar industry in 2022 with a new brand bearing his family’s name, Ozneger Family Cigars. “When I wanted to get back into the business with a cigar that was part of my family heritage, it was always my intent to have Ernesto Perez-Carrillo making the cigars,” says Tim.

The connection between Tim and Ernesto is a deep one. Ernesto was a long-time acquaintance of Tim's father, Cano Ozgener. They shared a bond during the cigar industry's more challenging times before the 1990s, often engaging in trades. Cano was known for his pipes, particularly the ornately carved meerschaum. “I used to trade cigars for meerschaum pipes,” says Ernesto. “I always had such an admiration for the family and the father. It was a great friendship.”

When Tim returned to the cigar industry in 2022, Bosphorus was his first brand in 12 years. This brand, currently crafted by Casa Carrillo, quickly garnered critical acclaim, including a spot in Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 Cigars of the Year for 2023.  Bosphorus marked just the beginning of a fruitful partnership between Ozneger Family Cigars and Casa Carrillo.

CUBA ALIADOS

The Vandermarliere Family of Cigars, which owns J. Cortès and Oliva Cigar Co., acquired Cuba Aliados, a brand from Honduras that gained fame in the 1990s under the stewardship of the late Rolando Reyes Sr. In a notable development this June, the company unveiled two fresh Cuba Aliados lines.

The Cuba Aliados Original Blend, a regular production item, is being crafted by Julio Eiroa of JRE Tobacco Co. On the other hand, the Cuba Aliados by Ernesto Perez-Carrillo is a limited edition offering produced by Casa Carrillo. These two lines pay homage to Reyes' post-1970 journey, post his departure from Cuba, in his quest to find lands and growing conditions akin to those in Cuba, which eventually led him to Honduras in 1990.

Fred Vanermarliere, the owner of Vandermarliere Family of Cigars, expressed his profound gratitude and respect for the Cubans who courageously left their homeland to pursue their dreams and sustain the legacy of cigar-making abroad. In a press release, he said, “This endeavor is a tribute to the many sacrifices they made. It also represents the solidarity and alliances necessary among cigar companies in the face of new regulations. Reviving this iconic brand and involving Julio and Ernesto, particularly given their close connections to Rolando, is extremely meaningful. We've taken great care to honor its rich history in every step of this project.”

ROMA CRAFT

To mark his 50th birthday, Skip Martin, co-founder of RoMa Craft, embarked on a unique project with famed cigar maker Ernesto Perez-Carrillo. Their collaboration aimed to create a distinctive cigar using Dominican tobacco, a new venture for RoMa Craft. After a meticulous two-year development process, they perfected the blend, choosing a dark tan Ecuadorian Sumatra-seed maduro wrapper to complement the carefully selected Dominican binder and filler. This blend underwent a year-long aging process, allowing the flavors to mature and meld seamlessly.

The resulting masterpiece, the RoMa Craft Quinquagenario, represents a significant milestone. It's not just a celebration of Martin's half-century mark but also RoMa Craft's first foray into Dominican cigar production. Handcrafted at the esteemed Tabacalera La Alianza S.A. (now known as Casa Carrillo), this cigar stands as a testament to the collaboration's success. The name "Quinquagenario," which in Spanish means someone in their fifties, fittingly encapsulates the spirit and essence of this exceptional cigar, making it a notable addition to the Casa Carrillo portfolio.
